When it comes to paying for weight loss surgery, it is preferable to have private health insurance. The cost of most weight loss surgeries without private health insurance can be very expensive due to hospital costs. It is advised, especially with the changes to Medicare last year, to check with your insurance provider to see if you are covered. Please do not assume your top cover has continued. Ring the fund and quote the item number to make sure you are still covered.

You must have a referral from your general practitioner or a medical specialist to receive weight loss surgery.

Did you know that you are able to request part of your superannuation early to help pay for your weight loss surgery or other applicable medical procedures?

This is a great option for patients who require weight loss surgery, but do not have the funds to pay the excess costs of surgery. It’s also possible to use this method to pay for family members who are in accordance with the Superannuation Industry and unable to pay their surgery costs.
