In a recent study, Dutch researchers have found that gastric band surgery is good for your brain as well as your waistline! Doctors studied 129 patients before surgery in 2018 and afterwards in 2021 and found they performed better on cognitive tests after the operation than they did before it. Dr. Amanda Kiliaan said that patients’ memory and attention were still improving two years after the surgery!

Post-operation patients also spend less time thinking about food, freeing up brain capacity which could help them stave off memory-loss conditions such as dementia later on in life. Previous research backs up these new claims. Links have been found between weight-loss and improved brain power, allowing people to better prioritize tasks, filter distraction, and control impulses.
